Etsy Overhaul Challenge

Day 5 – Shop Headline and Story

Your ‘About’ section may be seen by some of your visitors, and others won’t notice it or take the time to read it. In my opinion the main reason for taking some time to carefully consider your shop headline and shop story is search engine optimisation. The text you include will be picked up by search engines, and people searching the web for your particular craft can stumble across your shop by accident.

Shop Headline

Your shop headline can be up to 150 characters including spaces – so make sure you use them all! Fill it with your keywords and make it sound inviting to encourage visitors to read on. What makes your shop unique? Try to use broad terms as well as specific terms to describe what you make and sell.

Shop Story

You shop story can be up to 5000 characters. Ideally start at the beginning when you first attempted your craft, or describe what gave you the inspiration to set up your shop.

Discuss the milestones you’ve reached and the path you’ve taken to bring to where you are now. It’s up to you if you want to make your story personal or strictly professional – you can mention your family and a bit about your personal life – perhaps your childhood involves your introduction to the world of crafting – or just keep things on a need to know basis and chat about your creative life as an adult.

You can also describe your future plans for your shop; your hopes, ambitions and wildest fantasies – don’t be afraid to dream big!

Revisit you shop story every few months and update it with your latest conquests and achievements, and update your keywords to include any new products or ranges.

HOW TO (DESKTOP) : Go to the About section and click on the ‘Story’ tab etsy.com/your/shops/me/staff

HOW TO (MOBILE) : In the Sell on Etsy App, click on Settings > Shop Settings and scroll down to the About section. You can click in to add your headline and story separately.

 END OF DAY 5

You might be feeling a bit nostalgic thinking back to where it all began – or you might be feeling inspired thinking about where you are going and what the future of your shop holds. Plan your shop headline and story now – draft it out a few times to make sure you have your story straight and don’t leave any details out.
